How you can use this website

On this website, you should be able to:

• Change colours, contrast levels, and fonts
• Zoom in up to 200% with text staying visible on the screen, and most images scaling without resolution loss
• Navigate most of the website using a keyboard
• Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
• Read most of the website using a screen reader
• Read most of the website on devices without a screen, like a braille computer

We've made the website text as simple as possible to understand, aiming for a reading age of a 12 year old.

If you have a disability then AbilityNet has advice to help you make your device easier to use (https://mcmw.abilitynet.org.uk/).

How accessible this website is

The majority of this website is fully accessible, and we run regular audits to identify any new problems.

We know that some parts of the website aren't fully accessible:

• we have a number of old publication documents which are in JPEG, PDF and Word format, and haven't been designed for accessibility
• some content is embedded in our website, such as maps and you cannot easily scale these on screen (but you can open a full screen version)

How to get information in an accessible format

If you have problems accessing information on this website, or would like any of our work in a different format like a more accessible PDF, large print, easy read, audio recording, or braille:

  • email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) - https://www.equalityadvisoryservice.com/

Technical information about this website's accessibility

Compass House Medical Centers is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below:

Issues with technology

We test for and support the following browsers:
• Google Chrome (versions in support)
• Internet Explorer (version 9 and above)
• Microsoft Edge (versions in support)
• Apple Safari (versions in support)

This website relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

• HTML
• JavaScript

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

Issues with links

We are aware of some links on our website that don’t make sense when read on their own (for example 'click here')

The IT team is working through these and aim to have these fixed by January 2021.

Issues with: PDFs / JPEGs and Word Documents

PDFs, JPEGs and Word Documents are not able to comply with the requirements of the web accessibility standard, and we do not generally upload new PDFs/ JPEGs /Word Documents.

Our site contains a number of PDFs, JPEGs and Word Documents created in previous years. We will be working to replace these where possible with more accessible formats like PDF/A and HTML. There are some exceptions where the downloads are intended for print purposes, such as posters and we will be unable to replace these.

Issues with text and content

There are some issues with text and content which we are aware of:

  • Not all of our content reaches our target reading age of 12 years old. We are resolving this as content comes up through its review cycle, and this should be largely complete by September 2021.

How we test this website

We conduct internal testing against known accessibility issues which are not able to be found through automated testing. We last conducted an accessibility check/ audit on 21st September 2020.

From 607 Sections Audited, only 103 (17%) were not Fully Accessible for less abled patients (e.g. visually impaired). Please see ‘What we are doing to improve’ section for more details on what our IT Team is working on.

What automated testing tells us

Automated testing can't find everything that could be improved, but is rarely wrong about what it does find.

Automated testing helps us find errors, contrast errors, redundant links and formatting problems. We used the WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool and Web Accessibility (by Level Access) to ensure the site compliance level.
