NHS Hormone Replacement Therapy Prescription Prepayment Certificate (HRT PPC)

A Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC) could save you money if you pay for NHS prescriptions.

It may save money if you need more than 3 prescribed items in 3 months, or more than 11 prescribed items in 12 months.

Each item on an NHS prescription usually costs £9.90. You can buy an HRT PPC for a one-off payment of £19.80 (the cost of two single items).

The HRT PPC covers an unlimited number of certain HRT medicines for 12 months, regardless of why they are prescribed.

Important: Refunds for prescription charges

If you have applied for a PPC and pay prescription charges while waiting for it to arrive, you can get a refund as long as:

  • you get an NHS refund form (FP57) when you pay, as you can’t get one later
  • the PPC covers the date you paid for your prescription
