Patients eligible for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening may be invited by Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.

If you are over 65 and have not previously been screened, you can request an appointment directly with the screening service.

We have an Asthma Nurse. If you have asthma, it is important that you attend a yearly review to check your inhaler technique and review your asthma medication to help achieve the best possible control of your symptoms.

Yearly checks are usually completed during your birth month.

The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme invites all men and women aged 60 to 74 who are registered with a GP surgery to take part in bowel cancer screening using a FIT (Faecal Immunochemical Test) kit at home.

People aged 75 and over can request a free screening kit by calling 0800 707 6060.

Eligible patients are usually invited every 2 years as part of the national screening programme.

Bowel Cancer Screening

Women aged 50 to 70 and 11 months are routinely invited for breast screening every 3 years as part of the NHS Breast Screening Programme.

If you have missed your screening appointment, please contact the screening service on 01803 655 350.

Women aged over 71 can still request breast screening every 3 years by contacting the screening service directly.

Breast Screening - Torbay Hospital

We have a practice-based Carers Support Worker, Aleigha. Her aim is to support patients who have caring responsibilities for a spouse, relative, friend or neighbour. Support can be provided either at the Practice or in the carer’s home.

If you would like support from our Carers Support Worker, please contact our Care Coordinators, who will be happy to pass on your details and arrange a phone call.

Your appointment will be with one of our Practice Nurses, who will carry out your cervical screening test (previously known as a smear test).

Cervical screening helps detect high-risk HPV and abnormal cell changes in the cervix (neck of the womb) that could develop into cancer if left untreated.

If abnormal changes are found, treatment is usually simple and effective.

In England, patients aged 25 to 49 are usually invited every 3 years, and patients aged 50 to 64 are usually invited every 5 years.

Patients who have had a total hysterectomy may not require further cervical screening.

You will receive an invitation directly from the NHS Cervical Screening Programme when you are due for screening.

Childhood vaccinations are offered routinely by the NHS to help protect children against serious infectious diseases.

If you are booking for a possible gynaecological examination, swabs or cervical smear, please inform the practice where possible. This allows us to provide the appropriate appointment time and arrange a nurse or chaperone if required.

If you need emergency contraceptive advice, please let Reception know so they can ensure you speak to a member of our healthcare team the same day.

Levonelle 2, the emergency contraceptive pill, can be purchased confidentially over the counter at pharmacies if you are over 16 years of age. Please speak to your pharmacist for further details.

If you are unable to book an appointment for a contraceptive procedure such as an IUD / IUS (coil) within your preferred timeframe, please contact the Family Planning Office at Castle Circus (Torquay) on 01803 656500.

As with Asthma, we have a specialist COPD nurse. It is important that you attend regular review appointments.

Yearly checks are usually completed during your birth month.

If you need to use this service, please contact 01803 656 777 once you receive confirmation of your appointment.

In addition, Karing (a local registered charity supporting the Torbay community) provides an affordable transport service to medical appointments at GP surgeries and hospitals, including Exeter, Plymouth and the wider South West. Please call 01803 524 799 to discuss your transport needs and check whether they can assist you.

For patients taking warfarin or similar anticoagulants, the Nurse or Health Care Assistant taking your INR sample will advise you of your dosage regimen during your appointment.

We run two INR clinics:

• King Street – Tuesday afternoons
• Galmpton – Thursday afternoons

Please advise the surgery if you would like a carer, relative or nurse to receive your results on your behalf. This request must be made in writing.

If your blood tests are taken at home by the District Nurse, please let us know when you call for your result and we will arrange your next blood test when it is due.

We also provide a number of non-NHS services such as medical examinations, private sick notes, insurance forms and holiday cancellation forms.

These services are not covered by the NHS and a separate charge is payable.

Non-NHS Services and SARs

Our fully qualified Health Care Assistants take bloods, ECGs, audiograms, lung tests and blood pressures. Phlebotomy appointments are available up to 4 weeks in advance
